Henry's Hustle 2009

Did you know an average of almost four children from each county in the United States are diagnosed with cancer each year? One in five of those children will not survive.

Recently that statistic touched the lives of many in our Maugansville community. The students and staff at Maugansville Elementary are asking for your support in helping us do our part to advance the cure for and raise awareness of childhood cancers.

What is “Henry’s Hustle”?

On May 16 2009, Maugansville Elementary will be working with the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to host a 1-mile run and Carnival titled “Henry’s Hustle”. We are hoping to raise funds in support of a cure for Childhood Cancers. Our goal is to raise at least $5,000 in donations to the cause. We have formed a committee who will spend the coming weeks preparing for this event, it is one of the biggest challenges this school has faced – the challenge of raising awareness of just how serious the epidemic of childhood cancer is.

Why are we hosting “Henry’s Hustle”?
Very recently, Henry Scheck, whose sisters attend Maugansville Elementary, lost his life to childhood cancer. Henry was 4 years old and would have started kindergarten here this fall. This tragedy cannot hit more closely to home than in our own community, own school, with one of our own families. We’ve chosen to honor Henry’s memory by hosting this event in his name and by doing so, raise awareness as well as funds to find cures for childhood cancers.

How can the students and community help?
It’s simple, help raise funds! Attached to this letter is a fundraising sheet. Each student who participates in Henry’s Hustle will be asked to actively seek out people or corporations to sponsor them in the 1 mile run. Prizes will be awarded to the students according to how much money he or she raises. Every student who raises at least $1.00 will receive a small prize and entry into the 1 mile run. 100% of the profits of this event will go directly to Alex’s Lemonade stand foundation.

When and where will this all take place?
The “Henry’s Hustle” event will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on the campus of Maugansville Elementary School. The 1-mile run will begin around 10:00 a.m. and will be open to all students, parents, and community members and will feature an Alex’s Lemonade stand on the course. Following the Run until 2:00 p.m. Maugansville will host a carnival fundraiser for the Alex’s Lemonade stand foundation with carnival games, food, prize raffles, and lots of fun. We hope as a community you will help support our efforts and this critically important cause by raising funds and attending our event.
